I’m a nurse specializing in Parkinson’s disease. Because of investment from the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, I’m helping to expand the team of nurses who can treat and end PD. And we need your help!
A few years ago, as a nursing educator, I was troubled to see that we were leaving the next generation of nurses unprepared to care for people with Parkinson’s disease — in fact, the textbook included only one sentence on PD! But with PDF’s $600,000 investment in health care leaders — including training to prepare the next generation of nurses — this is changing.
But we need your donation to help our team — including nursing educators like me — meet our goal of ending PD. That’s why, this month, your support goes further. All donations made by Thursday, December 31st, will be doubled by the PDF Board of Directors and friends for up to $500,000!
Last year, I was thrilled when PDF announced its collaboration on The Edmond J. Safra Visiting Nurse Faculty Program.
Since then, working with PDF, we have expanded and enhanced our 40-hour accredited “train the trainer” program which improves nursing care in Parkinson’s disease by training faculty leaders across the US who, in turn, educate nursing students. To date, the program has trained more than 170 nursing educators:
- They are reaching 11,000 nursing students a year!
- They are working to improve nursing standards and education, for example, as it relates to safe hospital care for people with PD.
- They are improving nursing education for individual students, but also on a broader level, for example by ensuring that nursing schools expand the time spent on PD in their curriculums.
More than ever before, because of PDF, young nurses are entering the field better prepared to help you and your families face PD.
This makes me hopeful for a different kind of future. But such progress would not have been possible without PDF’s commitment to supporting health leaders.
I’m asking you to double your donation today to ensure even more nurses have the tools they need to fight PD!
Your gift of $50 will automatically become $100, a gift of $100 becomes $200 and a gift of $500 becomes $1,000.
Your support, your membership on this team, ensures we can recruit more nursing educators to the team and come closer to our goal — ending PD.
